"Nothing wrong with being direct," Jess retorted, settled quite happily now as he joined her. Raising her own mask, Jess almost tore it off completely. Except... he hadn't. And since they were matching so many other ways.... why not?
Picking up a slice of pizza, she grinned back.
"I don't usually go out for a date in costume at all. You're just a special case."
A very, stupidly familiar case that she still couldn't place. It wasn't like her to be this slow witted.

Ben chuckled a bit before he picked a piece of the pie from Spider-Woman's lap, "Nah, I guess there isn't." He looked her up and down again before deciding that red and yellow was a good look for the woman. Holding it in and smirking a bit, Ben took a bite of his pizza as she called him a special case.
"Oh?" He started between chews, "Well, it's not every day you go from about to beating a guy up to going out with him for pizza, so I guess that kinda makes sense."
He continued to bite thoughtfully before saying, "I don't get why they take it out on us Spiders, we're all doing the same work out there, but Jameson targets us. Like he's got some kind of kooky vendetta against arachnids, what did we ever do to him?" He figured that was the reason she'd come looking for him anyway.
Of course, he had a few memories of when Peter had met her, a name with a J, right? He couldn't pull it out, perhaps that was a good thing, no need to creep her out.

"I thought you said we were hugging," Jess retorted, pausing to lick a stray bit of cheese off her hand.
"Besides," she drawled. "You like the idea of us being... physical."
Jameson targets us was the phrase that clicked things into place for Spider Woman. She'd been picking up little things. The way he stood and move, the curve of his mouth, the familiar rants about Jameson and his little quip about a 'friendly neighborhood Spider Man'.
So very like Peter, yet not quite. Older, harsher a bit. But the resemblance was still there.
"My personal theory is that he was bitten as a child."
She took another bite to give herself time to formulate her thoughts. Mnn... no, let's just go with direct.
"So, are you Peter's older brother or something?"

When she teased, Ben chuckled. Flirting with Spider-Woman hadn't been on the schedule for today, but it was a rather exciting addendum. "Well, you know how it is," the Scarlet Spider started, "Fighting becomes hugging, hugging leads to, other things."
The joke about Jameson got a full laugh out of him, "Probably."
She asked him about who he was, and if she hadn't said his name, Ben would have just deflected and moved on.
"Not, exactly," Ben started, "I'm a clone, or, he's the clone. I don't know which of us is which, not yet." Ben looked out ahead, "So, you know Peter Parker then? And how did you meet our fellow Spider?"
Who exactly was this Spider-Woman, Ben supposed he'd have to stick around and find out. Not that he was complaining.

He'd caught her double meaning easily, and Jess was enjoying their little game. It would be more fun if she could be certain he wasn't affected by her pheromones at all, but as that wasn't under her control....
Ah well, at least she made him laugh.
His answer to her assumption he was related to Peter was a bit off the wall. She'd expected some sort of relationship, but not that they shared DNA.
Although, come to think of it, that did fit with the idiosyncracities just as well.
"Tough break. I don't like having multiple people using my 'Spider Woman' name, I can't imagine the territorial problems of being identical. Or, mostly.... I still think you seem older."
How did you meet our fellow Spider?
"Well, I'm not his clone," she told him decisively. "He's just one of the strangest men I've ever met."
Strange enough to stick with her. That, and as an ex investigator, she did notice things.

Ben chuckled when she made sure he knew she wasn't a clone of Peter, "Good, because that would have made this date, a little weird." At least he imagined it would be odd, Ben wasn't exactly sure how clone relationships would even work.
Frankly, he didn't really want to either.
"I seem older? Well, that's because I am older, sort of."
That was the thing that convinced Ben that he wasn't the real one, that Parker was.
"I aged fast. You wouldn't believe what my real age is."

"It is weird, but weird isn't a bad thing," Jessica told him with a shrug.
Anything this impulsive was bound to be a little strange. But even though part of Jess still wanted to punch this guy in the head for causing so much trouble, the familiarness about him also made her curious. Like any good spider, he had lured her in, and Jess kind of admired that about him.
The 'sort of' merited a raised eyebrow, but it was his decisive belief she wouldn't credit his true age that had Jess rising to the challenge.
"Try me, Scarlet. I know appearances can be deceiving."
Example one, herself. She wasn't even sure of her actual age anymore. Fifty? Sixty?
It was easier to pretend she was only as old as she looked. Somewhere close to thirty. It wasn't as if she had actively 'lived' for that long anyway.

"Try me, Scarlet. I know appearances can be deceiving."
Ben chuckled before answering, "I'm two. Two years old as of a month ago."
He paused a moment before saying, "I know, I know. I've aged horribly. But supposedly, I'll start aging at a normal rate from this point on. They grew me right to the peak. And so I missed out on all the fun parts of being two."

There was only one way to respond to his apparent age.
So Jess waddled up a napkin and tossed it at him.
"I feel really creepy now, thanks," she teased. She was older than most people who 'appeared' her age though, so at least it wasn't a foreign feeling. Still... only two? Well.. maybe that explained why he was so stubbornly sure of himself. Not enough real world experience of his own.
"You'd think people would stop messing around and experimenting on people like us. There are enough abominations and man-things out there as it is."

Ben chuckled after the napkin hit him, "Hey, litterbug, I should tie you up and drop you off at the police station." He paused for a few moments before correcting himself, "After the date is over."
He finished his slice of pizza and said, "You shouldn't feel creepy, I've been alive for two years, but I've got the experience of Parker's eighteen." It was true, Ben had been implanted with all of Parker's memories when he had been born, "So, technically, I'm twenty."
What she said made sense to him, Ben shrugged and said, "There are some real nutjobs out there. I'm here because of one of them, I think."
He assumed that he'd been created to be a soldier with Spider-Man's abilities, Ben wasn't going for that. He'd make his own destiny, spin his own web.

"You're no fun," Jess retorted. "Tying up a date and 'police station' aren't meant to be in the same thought sequence."
Privately, she liked his rationalization on his age. Twenty was a much less weird number than two. Still an age difference, but not nearly as disturbing a one.
"Humans can be very twisted. But at least you're not under anyone's control right now."
Presumably, anyway. Jess wrinkled her nose a little in distaste before finishing her first slice.

Ben laughed before picking another slice of pizza from the box, "It's just the superheroic thing to do. Littering is a very serious crime you know," he was teasing of course, "But, if you so choose, I could think of an alternative mode of punishment."
He didn't wait for Spider-Woman to ask him what that was, instead just suggesting, "A second date. Seems like a fair trade."
What she said made a lot of sense, Ben was glad that he wasn't under anyone's control but his own, "You've got a point."
He was beginning to really like this Spider-Woman. She was someone he could relate to.

Leaning over to take another slice, Jess smirked at his alternative punishment.
"There's a sure fire way to make sure I never litter again," she joked lightly. "You're pretty weird, you know that? Look at us, planning things now."
Still, she wasn't going to say no. He amused her too much.
"It's a deal if we skip the costumes," Jess announced decisively. "We're a little conspicuous like this."

The Scarlet Spider's grin returned, "I'll take weird. Weird is better than crazy. Even if they are pretty close."
"And what's wrong with planning things?" Ben asked, in mock hurt, then rationalized the reason for another date between the duo, "I'm a spider, you're a spider. We both like pizza. Do I hear wedding bells?"
He pulled on his mask a bit with his thumb, revealing one of his eyes, "Alright. Costumeless it is." He offered a gloved hand, "Ben. Ben Reilly."

He had a point on the weird crazy thing. Crazy meant straight jackets, dark sides, and all sorts of nasty things. Weird was just... strange, eclectic. Like a two year old trying to help save the world.
And what's wrong with planning things?
"Nothing, nothing, I'm sure. Probably, anyway."
I'm a spider; you're a spider. We both like pizza. Do I hear wedding bells?
Jess couldn't help but laugh at that. "Such a romantic spider, aren't you?"
Pulling off her own mask completely, Jess shook her hair free of her eyes before accepting his hand.
"Jessica Drew. Pleasure to meet you, Ben Reilly."
