Location: Central Park Date: August 5th, 2012 Time of Day: 12:30 PMHot coffee never seemed to burn his tongue any more, Johnny had observed. In fact, he hadn't burned his tongue since the accident two years ago, when he became the Human Torch. It was actually rather interesting. He seemed impervious to heat, which he rather liked.
After all, nothing was worse than a burning your tongue right before you win a date with the most eligible Avenger bachelorette.
Popping a mint into his mouth, Johnny Storm resisted the urge to bite down and chew the mint like it was candy. He was terribly impulsive, and self control was almost naught, so this was good practice.
She was an Airforce pilot, he had to remember that. Something like that meant that Johnny would be dealing with someone who was rather good at looking unimpressed.
Of course, that only meant he'd have to try harder.
Johnny whistled as he sat back in the park bench he'd staked out. For maybe a moment, he thought she might blow him off, but then Johnny remembered who he was, and their quick repartee of phone tag. She liked to be challenged, and to say the Human Torch was a challenge, was an understatement.

"Hey, Storm!" an authoritative female voice called out from above.
Ms. Marvel - in full costume, including mask - descended from the sky with a hand on her hip and a smirk on her lips.
"You ready for that race?" she asked, touching down on the ground in front of the park bench he was sitting on. "Or do you need to let your coffee settle?"
She looked him up and down - but, dang... He was hot! (No pun intended!)
"You do know that I'm gonna wipe the floor with you, right?" she challenged, still smirking.
Win or loose, this was gonna be fun - Carol just hoped that Johnny would let her pop home for a shower and a change of clothes before that date he threatened... She hated going out all stinky and sweaty. Yuck.

"Hey, Storm!"
And there she was. Johnny smirked a little bit. No one stood up the Human Torch, not even an Avenger.
But man, if someone could've stood him up and gotten away with it, Ms. marvel would be the one. Damn, she was smoking hot (Pun definitely intended)
Grinning as she taunted him, Storm nodded and shot on back, "I don't need to wait. I'm ready whenever you are Gorgeous." Johnny rather liked that nickname, because it was definitely fitting whn it came to the blonde he was facing off against in a race around the world. Even with superpowers, this was no small feat, and they'd both definitely be rather tired by the time they reached the home stretch, but that was where Johnny would take control of the situation, maybe use a little of that extra heat Reed always warned him not to.
"You do know that I'm gonna wipe the floor with you, right?"
Johnny chuckled before saying, "Wipe the floor with me? I'm Johnny Storm, if there's one type of contest I don't lose, it's races."
Stretching his arms, making sure he was ready, "Whenever you're ready."

"Oh, I'm always ready," Ms. Marvel quipped with a smirk before she lifted upwards into the air once again.
"On the count of three, then?" she asked, flashing Johnny a playful wink when they were clearly both ready to rock and roll.
And then, BAM - they were off, streaks of color flashing across the sky, high up above the cruising altitude of airplanes, but still well within the Earth's atmosphere, but... that was because Carol couldn't breathe in the vacuum of space, despite being nearly invulnerable, and she wasn't sure about Johnny - it wasn't worth the risk, at any rate. This was, after all, a friendly race.

Johnny watched her launch off. He had a game plan, and he was sticking to it. Moving off the grass onto a paved path, Johnny focused his powers.
"Flame on!"
Lighting up like an explosion, the Human Torch flew off into the sky, chasing after Miss Marvel at blazing speeds. Fast pace was the only pace that Johnny knew how to go, which was made evident when he caught up to and teased Carol, his hand losing it's flame while he smacked her lightly on her partially exposed behind. The Torch winked as well and said, "See you in Spain, babe." Then he shot off, a streak of flames across the New York City skyline.

Being nearly invulnerable meant that Carol didn't feel certain things in the same way normal people did - at least, physically - Johnny's gentle smack on her rear, for instance, only sort-of registered. It was definitely more than a tickle to the masked Avenger, but not too much more. In fact, she had to actually glance back to double check that he hadn't left a hand print on her bottom.
Not that it would have been a problem if he had... Actually, that would have been pretty amusing to Major Danvers, though... she would probably act quite the opposite.
The Torch winked as well and said, "See you in Spain, babe."
"What? Are we stopping for tapas, or something?" Ms. Marvel shouted back, knowing full well they would both keep on going until one of them won. "You haven't won yet, Storm!" And, Carol pushed herself onward.

Johnny chuckled as he heard her make a joke. He'd rolled the dice, and luckily the near invulnerable woman had taken his spank lightly and was ready to play. He turned around backwards, still flying in the proper direction. He cupped his hands over his mouth as they went and called back to the fellow blonde hero, "Oh, I'm gonna win, and you're gonna love the date I've got in mind Babe, but I'm more of a paella kind of guy." He smirked before focusing.
Covered in flames, Johnny shot off at his top speed, trying to keep ahead of Miss Marvel. It was curious to him, but she wasn't falling behind at all.
He needed a strategy, something to throw her off. He needed to win! Especially after he'd gotten to smack that butt. Johnny's playboy side was starting to bubble up. He was certainly able to be sweet and attentive, but god, that butt...

Gosh, but this was frustrating! For all her strength and power - and speed - Ms. Marvel didn't seem to be able to make any distance between herself and the Human Torch. Essentially, they seemed to be... evenly matched - at least, as far as this race went. And, Carol had been so sure she was gonna win this one, hands down.
Of course, that made her want to try all the harder to win.
Not that she wouldn't enjoy being taken on a date, though... Carol couldn't remember the last time she'd been out with a man on an actual 'date' and not just for professional reasons. Her previous career hadn't done much for her social life, that's for sure.
Maybe Carol would just 'let' Johnny win. It'd be good for his ego, and it'd be nice to be treated like a lady by one of New York's finest bachelors.
But... then again... Carol very much liked winning... So, she kept on trying to gain a lead.
At least, for now.
"I don't know about paella," Ms. Marvel called out. "I'm more of a burger and fries kind of girl - not that I'm gonna let you win!"

"I don't know about paella," Ms. Marvel called out. "I'm more of a burger and fries kind of girl - not that I'm gonna let you win!"
"That's a shame, I make a mean burger." Johnny commented, "Not to brag or anything, but I'm kinda a grill master. Burn resistant." He was reaching a bit, making conversation instead of focusing on winning the race and earning the date. He blinked a few times and said, "Maybe I'll cook for you after I beat you in this race."
Johnny heated up a bit past his comfortable zones. Reed warned him time and again to be careful how hot he got, because while he couldn't feel it, others certainly could. There was a limit he could go up to before he started to seriously effect and damage the planet, best not do that for a date.
No, a streak of blazing fire was enough for Johnny Storm as the duo of heroes began to cross the Atlantic Ocean, heading further east.
"Of course," he yelled back, "It's totally not my fault if I overcook it a little."

Carol smirked. “And, maybe I’ll let you cook me dinner sometime… Especially if you’re as good as you claim,” she sassily retorted. “But, I’m still not gonna let you win, Storm!”
"Of course," he yelled back, "It's totally not my fault if I overcook it a little."
“Pfft – and, here I thought you said you were a ‘grill master’,” Carol teased, trying to push ahead of the flaming Johnny, but finding that she really couldn’t manage to form any significant measure of distance between them.
It was getting a bit frustrating; however, Carol found that she was enjoying the banter with Johnny Storm.
Heck… Maybe she would let him win. Of course, she couldn’t let him know…

Johnny chuckled and said, "You haven't even let me cook for you yet. You'll see Major. You'll see."
He considered flipping onto his back and just continuing to chat Carol up like this, but he needed to win the race to get the date, so it was time to come up with a way to win. Johnny looked on ahead, then suddenly yelled, "Look out for that pelican!"
If she fell for it, he'd have taken the lead now.

Johnny looked on ahead, then suddenly yelled, "Look out for that pelican!"
"Huh?" Carol uttered, tearing her eyes off of the flaming hunk she was flirting with.
Not knowing if Johnny was just pulling her leg, or if there actually was a pelican in her path, or anything else for that matter, Carol preferred to err on the side of caution - it would be best to take evasive action.
If she didn't... Well... The pelican would likely burst, leaving her covered in blood, guts and feathers. Not cool.
So, Carol's flight path was altered drastically in the blink of an eye. She abruptly dove downwards several feet, knowing that she ought to be well-clear of that stupid pelican...
And then, she rolled over so that her back was facing the Atlantic Ocean. Carol saw Johnny had made some strides ahead of her - and she also saw that there was no pelican. Her eyes bulged a bit with her annoyance, and Carol glared up and ahead at Johnny.
"Storm! You big, flaming cheater!" she hollered as she sort of pouted and angled her flight path back upwards towards Johnnny; though... she wasn't really angry, per se: part of her wanted to smack him, and another part just wanted to laugh.
However, Carol probably looked quite put-out - much more than she actually felt.

"Storm! You big, flaming cheater!"
"I prefer big, flaming, opportunist."
Johnny laughed before looking back and calling in her direction, "Sorry babe, never met anyone as fast as I am." He grinned and then continued, "Besides, I need to win, I might've already made a reservation to a place before I made the challenge."
He played to win, and Johnny was starting to see land up ahead, which meant he needed to pick up his pace. He had no clue Carol intended on possibly letting him win, and after their little exchange, well, he was starting to really like Ms. Marvel, thus the drive for victory increased.

"Sorry babe, never met anyone as fast as I am." He grinned and then continued, "Besides, I need to win, I might've already made a reservation to a place before I made the challenge."
"Oh, well that makes it all better, now, doesn't it?" Carol sarcastically retorted in reply, still glaring at the incredibly good looking cheater.
She had her fists out in front of her - like Superman did in the movies - and aimed not ahead of Johnny, but directly at him. It was as if her willpower and sense of justice had given her a bit of a boost, and Ms. Marvel was soon gaining on him - again: not ahead of him, but actually at him.
Johnny was goin' down.
Not that Carol wished to hurt him - more like give him a super-powered dunk in the sea, which at this point was no longer the Atlantic Ocean, but rather the Mediterranean Sea near Greece. However, she'd have to reach into his flames to grab Johnny and knock him out of the sky, and Carol wasn't sure how she'd fare - she didn't know if she'd get quite terribly burned, or if she'd remain unscathed thanks to her near-invulnerability.
Either way, she was sure it would be worth it - so long as she took care not to accidentally drown him.
Ms. Marvel felt herself slam into Johnny, and despite the intense heat that radiated from him and his flames, she wrapped her arms around his torso and allowed gravity to help draw them both down to the sea. Thanks to her superhuman durability and near-invulnerability, Johnny's heat and flame didn't harm Carol - rather, it sort of felt like she was hugging something quite warm and comforting. Maybe it even tickled a bit. Regardless, the pair of them hurtled down towards the water...
At the very last second before impact, Carol was worried that this playful action of hers might wind up hurting Johnny, who wasn't as physically durable as she was, so she made every attempt to angle the two of them so that they went smoothly into the water, feet first. Carol wasn't going to be allowing any broken bones or drowning - not on her watch!
Her eyes went wide with her intensity, and Carol quickly shouted, "Deep breath!" before the darkness of the sea enveloped them both.

Suddenly, Johnny felt a lot cooler, and he could tell he wasn't moving on his own volition.
Oh, he was underwater. Great.
Miss Marvel had dragged him down, apparently his trick had gone unappreciated. Johnny would have laughed, if that wouldn't have led to his lungs being filled up with water. He nearly choked, but managed to spare himself that discomfort. After all, Carol was just playing around.
Suddenly, it clicked in Johnny's head, Carol was playing!
He smirked under water.
If they were going to go up, Johnny would have to play too. He grabbed onto Miss Marvel's waist with one arm, then leaned in and put his lips right on Carol's. Whether she kissed back or not, they'd have to go back up, because she'd likely be shocked by the sudden, new boldness.
