"Before I came here I was nothing but an heiress. The Avengers are about giving you a chance to start over. You just have to decide what you want that start to be. You make your own choices. Create your own path. You come up with a vision of what you want to aspire to, and then you work to make it happen."
WASP
Name: Janet Van Dyne
Alias(es): Wasp, Jan, Pixie
Regular
Age: 26
Height: 5' 4"
Physical Description: I'm a little short in stature, but that's okay... I have my heels that make me look just a little taller. I have short hair, it's a boy cut, admittedly... but I think it's cute! That's all that really matters! I like to wear dresses and fancy, expensive clothes. I admittedly have a 'passion for fashion' and want to be a fashion designer one day. I'm sure that I can do it!
Face Claim: Zooey Deschanel
Personality: I'm adventurous, I love the occasional risk factor that can be involved, this leads me to be overly-curious sometimes, and I maybe on the rare occasion get involved in things I shouldn't. One of these things I probably shouldn't have gotten involved with was Hank Pym, the scientist who would barely give me the time of day in college and for a while after that. Even if it was crystal clear I had feelings for him, I flirted, I did all sorts of things things to try and get the anti-social man's attention, but he always disregarded me. He was afraid of losing me, I later found out.
When I was younger, in my 'youth, I was an arrogant, egotistical girl with daddy's money. I didn't care for much save for the latest fashion... but I had a wake up call a few years after, and I realized that I shouldn't be acting in such a ludicrous manner. Now I'm only just a little haughty, it's fun, on the occasion... but I'm thankful for everything I have. For the most part.
Affiliation: The Avengers
Identity: Secret
Super Powers or Abilities:
• Size Manipulation
I had been injected with Pym Particles by Hank, which allows me to alter my size. I could go from a few centimeters tall, to a hundred or so feet tall. Honestly, it started to put a strain on me after a while. I was having trouble with it. After a long period time my body finally got used to it; I had been exposed to Pym Particles for a long enough time and I could manipulate my size with ease. Though I'll always prefer shrinking rather than growing. Just personal preference. When I'm miniature my strength is increased. When I grow in size my stamina, strength, and endurance increase with my height. It can reach extremely high levels, yet it's something I do only in rare cases.
•Flight
When in my miniature size I gain a pair of translucent wings, much akin to those of a wasp's or bee's. These allow me to fly. At top speeds I can go to 40 MPH. It's not 'Wow!' fast, but it's just right for me. Another power I have to thank Pym for...
• Wasp's Sting
I can harness my body's natural bio-electronic energy. From this I have the ability to send out little shockwaves (if you will) which are very powerful. I used to call them "stingers", and "stinger blasts" because of the powerful blast it exerts, but now I've just gotten used to referring to them as The Wasp's Sting. It sounds nice this way. At first I had to use special wristbands Pym designed to use my Wasp's sting, but now I'm able to use them unaided.
• Insect Telepathy
I can control insects, if I want to. It's not something I use often (much like my growing ability), but I know I have access to it. If necessary, I can unleash an army of insects upon my enemy. I don't think being eaten alive by bugs would be a pretty sight...
Skills: I'm somewhat skilled in hand to hand combat, I can hold my own, thanks to the Captain, who took it upon himself to train me. I have an amazing sense of fashion of course, but this leads out of hand sometimes and I end up making new outfits for myself... a lot. I'm bilingual, fluently speaking English and Spanish. I'm intuitive and can figure out things after a short time, it's one of my fiber points I suppose. I don't mean to toot my own horn either, but I'm a great strategist and I can be a leader when necessary. I'd like to think so...
Advantages: I'm an heiress, and a socialite. I have money that allows me to fund Hank's many endeavors. Not that that's really an advantage... my father was a renowned scientist (who worked with Hank for a few months before his... departure) so I'm a very fortunate girl, in a lot of senses.
Disadvantages: I might be a little too forgiving, and I spend far too much time thinking about fashion, and other "girly" things despite being a super hero. It might not be a disadvantage exactly, but it's noteworthy.
Occupation: Hero, Socialite
Citizenship: United States of America
Place of Birth: Cresskill, New Jersey
Relatives:
• Dr. Vernon Van Dyne (father; deceased)
History: I was born in Cresskill, New Jersey to two loving parents. My father was a world renowned scientist... and my mother, well, she was his boring trophy wife who sipped coffee with other rich housewives. That just sounded way too boring for me- so I idolized my father. I was very interested in his line of work; of course it wasn't as interesting as my budding career in the fashion industry, but I liked it. For most of my young adult life I grew up in relative normality (except for the fact that I was an heiress to a large fortune). I liked painting my nails, going shopping, and flirting with boys. There's nothing wrong with that, that's standard girl protocol. I'd be upset if I had a daughter and she didn't like doing those things.
I went to Empire State University, where I met Hank Pym, who was a brilliant man, really. We took a few classes together, but considering our vastly different career choices we didn't get to see each other much. I liked him... he didn't seem to notice me though. We remained friends after we graduated, we were a little closer. I funded most of his projects, in hopes that he'd realize my feelings for him.
He was the first person I contacted when my father died (from some freak alien accident...) he helped me a lot during that time. He discovered particles that he renamed Pym Particles, and he was able to make them into serums. I allowed him to perform one of his experiments (that's what we'll call it) on me, and because of it I've been given powers much akin to his. At this point we hadn't been romantically involved yet, but I thought we were stepping closer to it! I was sure I was creeping into this man's exoskeleton (was that funny?).
When SHIELD found out about Hank's research and our powers, it took a bit of convincing but we both eventually moved to The Avenger's Tower, and Hank even has his own laboratory there! Great, continue ignoring me... just go about with your biochemistry, Doctor. Getting his attention drives me to such lengths, I sometimes even flirt with other members of The Avengers to try and provoke some sort of jealousy within him.
When we're not combating crime, I make lots of new outfits for my superhero persona, and of course, I am a fashion designer as well.
