“I say thee NAY!”
THOR
Name: Thor Odinson
Alias(es): Asa-Thor. Donner. The Thunderer. The Warder of Earth. Vingnir ("the hurler"). Vingthor ("Thor the hurler"). Lord of the Goats. Warder of men. Worm's Destroyer. Son of Earth.
REGULAR
Age: Several thousand years.
Height: 6' 6", 640 lbs.
Physical Description: Thor is tall, heavily muscled, and handsome. He wears his blond hair long, sometimes pulled back, and sports a short blonde beard and mustache. His hands are heavily callused, and he has a number of faint but definite scars on his arms and torso. When dressed "normally", he wears blue breeches and a black leather sleeveless shirt, silvered forearm bracers, knee-high black boots, and a red cloak. On occasion, this is supplemented with chainmail and a winged helmet.
Face Claim: Chris Hemsworth
Personality: Thor is larger than life. He enjoys drinking and fighting and laughing and singing songs, and he lives life in full measure. But, underneath the boisterousness is a man that takes his duties seriously. He will defend the weak, right wrongs and champion the oppressed, and he will not back down when he believes he is right.
There is a darkness to Thor as well. He wages a constant struggle between his brash and arrogant nature, and the compassion and humility that befits a prince of Asgard. Pride and vanity can still drive him to make rash oaths that his sense of honor will not allow him to put aside. The All-Father permits him his adventures on MIdgard, in hopes that he will continue to learn wisdom.
But, at the end of the day, Thor is a hero. He will not forsake his duties, and he will not abandon his friends.
Affiliation: Avengers
Identity: Publicly known, but not widely believed.
Powers or Special Abilities:
Superhuman Strength: Thor is the strongest of the Aesir. There is no measured upper limit to his strength, although even he cannot overcome physics with brute force.
Asgardian Physiology: Thor simply does not get physically tired. He can exert himself at full effort for days, weeks, even months, without sign of fatigue. He can go for days without air, weeks without water, and months without food, although he prefers not to. His bones, muscles, and tissues are incredibly dense, rendering him functionally invulnerable to most sources of harm. He can be injured or even killed, of course, but it would require an attack by something on his own power scale. He is also functionally immortal.
Weather Control: Thor is the God of Thunder. He can summon and dismiss rain and wind and call lightning from the skies. The storms will persist as long as he wills them, and then will dissipate naturally if he does not dismiss them.
Skills: Thor is a master tactician, and skilled in all of the arts of war. He knows and speaks all of the languages of the Nine Worlds. He also has a vast knowledge of the arcane sciences of the Aesir.
Weapons and Equipment:
Mjolnir: Thor's signature weapon is a hammer forged from the indestructible Asgardian metal Uru. He most commonly uses it as a melee and throwing weapon, and is able to use his full strength without fear of damaging it. The hammer possesses a number of other qualities as well:
Megingjord: Thor's belt, which doubles his already tremendous strength and stamina.
Járngreipr: Thor's forearm bracers, which protect him from all extremes of temperature
Chariot: A two-wheeled chariot pulled by two enormous goats, Tanngrisni ("gap-tooth") and Tanngnost ("tooth grinder"). The chariot is capable of traversing the Nine Worlds and can travel faster than light.
Advantages: The Thunderer possesses a vast and indomitable will, rendering him virtually immune to direct attempts to control his mind. By human standards, he is also a genius (even though he is far from being the smartest of the Aesir).
Disadvantages: Arguably, Thor's indomitable will is his greatest weakness. He will not back down, when he believes he is in the right. This makes him stubborn and arrogant.
Occupation: God of Thunder, Strength, Courage, and Fertility. Hero.
Citizenship: Aesir. Resides in Thruthheim ("the Place of Might"), in his hall Bilskimir.
Place of Birth: Asgard
Relatives: Odin, father. Jorth, mother. Frigga, step-mother. Loki, adopted brother. Vithar the Silent, half-brother. Vali, half-brother. Many others.
History:
"Next they made for themselves in the middle of the world a city which is called Ásgard. There dwelt the gods and their kindred; and many tidings and tales of it have come to pass both on earth and aloft. There is one abode called Hlidskjálf, and when Allfather sat in the high-seat there, he looked out over the whole world and saw every man's acts, and knew all things which he saw. His wife was called Frigg daughter of Fjörgvinn; and of their blood is come that kindred which we call the races of the Æsir, that have peopled the Elder Ásgard, and those kingdoms which pertain to it; and that is a divine race. For this reason must he be called Allfather: because he is father of all the gods and of men, and of all that was fulfilled of him and of his might. The Earth was his daughter and his wife; on her he begot the first son, which is Ása-Thor: strength and prowess attend him, wherewith he overcometh all living things."
--Gylfaginning
"Once, mankind accepted a simple truth: that they were not alone in this universe. Some worlds man believed home to their Gods. Others they knew to fear. From around the cold and darkness came the Frost Giants, threatening to plunge the mortal world into a new ice age. But humanity would not face this threat alone.
"Our armies drove the Frost Giants back into the heart of their own world. The cost was great. In the end, their king fell, and the source of their power was taken from them. With the last great war ended, we withdrew from the other worlds and returned home at the Realm Eternal, Asgard.
"And here we remain as the beacon of hope, shining out across the stars. And though we have fallen into man's myths and legends, it was Asgard and its warriors that brought peace to the universe. "
- Odin All-Father, as quoted in the Asgardian version of Hovamol.
Myths are a way of explaining the world in ways that men can comprehend. They don't always get the details right.
Thor Odinson is the only child of Odin and Jorth, raised in the Halls of Asgard as the heir apparent to the throne. He was raised to be a good man, and he was a good man. But he was also impetuous. Arrogant. Headstrong. He would visit the Nine Worlds for sport, accompanied by his clever brother Loki, by the Shield-Maiden Sif, and by the Warriors Three, enjoying being worshiped as a god and a mythic hero.
Is he a god? Or is he "merely" a sufficiently-advanced immortal posthuman with inconceivable power?
Does it make a difference?
For millennia, Odin allowed his son his freedom to travel and explore. But he jeopardized the safety of Asgard while adventuring in Jotenheim, and then dared to dispute the word of the All-Father when he disciplined his wayward son. For his pride and hubris, he was stripped of his trappings and power and banished to Midgard, there to learn wisdom and humility
He walked Midgard as a mortal, drawn to but unable to reclaim his mystic hammer Mjolnir - the key to regaining his powers. While there he absorbed the lessons his father had sought to teach him, and he fell in love with the human Jane Foster. He regained his powers when he demonstrated himself willing to risk death not for glory and personal renown, but simply to save the lives of others.
With his newly regained powers he fought his brother - Loki Liesmith - who had betrayed and manipulated both the Aesir and the Jotuns for personal gain and the throne of Asgard. Forced to shatter the Bifrost, he watched as his brother plummeted into the void between the Nine Worlds.
Thor returned to Midgard seeking his brother, who now sought power and dominion over Earth. In company with a band of warriors mighty and brave - the heroes called the Avengers - he fought death-worshiping Chitari, foiled his brother's plans, and returned him to Asgard to face the justice of Odin.
He has now returned to MIdgard once more. The Chitari have been defeated, for the present, but the Norns have spoken. The doom of the Warder of Men is, for the present, in that realm of the Nine Worlds, and he will protect it if he can.
For honor.
For justice!

Mjolnir: Thor's signature weapon is a hammer forged from the indestructible Asgardian metal Uru. He most commonly uses it as a melee and throwing weapon, and is able to use his full strength without fear of damaging it. The hammer possesses a number of other qualities as well:
- Worthiness: Only those who are worthy may wield Mjolnir. It may not be lifted by anyone else and, if someone manages to lift it anyway (for instance, grabbing it in microgravity), it will defy their efforts to use it.
- Mystic Link: Those who are worthy may command Mjolnir as if it were a living thing. It will return to their hand from any distance if thrown or dropped, and cannot be barred or prevented by anything less powerful than the wielder. It can be steered in flight, allowing it to curve around obstacles to strike foes.
- Weather Control: The wielder may summon and banish winds and rain and lightning with Mjolnir. Those who already possess this power find it augmented to nearly planetary scales, if desired.
- Flight: By holding on to Mjolnir after throwing it, the wielder may fly at tremendous speeds - Thor has been tracked at well over Mach 1. The wielder may also hover in midair by spinning the hammer like a propeller.
- Energy Projection: Electricity may be channeled through Mjolnir, either as a separate attack or in conjunction with a strike from the hammer.
- Shield: Mjolnir is capable of absorbing and redirecting any form of electromagnetic energy that strikes it.
Megingjord: Thor's belt, which doubles his already tremendous strength and stamina.
Járngreipr: Thor's forearm bracers, which protect him from all extremes of temperature
