“Magneto welcomes all mutants. But not all mutants are as enlightened as we'd like.”
SCARLET WITCH
Name: Wanda Maximoff
Alias(es): Gypsy Witch
NPC
Age: 23
Height: 5’ 7”
Physical Description: Wanda has lovely blue eyes and long, thick auburn hair. She stands at about 5’ 7” and has an in-shape, yet svelte build.
Face Claim: Lucy Griffiths
Personality: Wanda is usually quite soft-spoken and gentle; however, this is not to be confused with weakness. She doesn't always find that she agrees with her father's methods, but she the thought of opposing him makes her feel ill - he and Pietro are the only family she has, and she would never want to jeopardize their relationship.
Affiliation: The Brotherhood of Mutants
Identity: SECRET
Powers or Special Abilities:
CHAOS MAGIC // REALITY WARPING: The Scarlet Witch's main power is the superhuman ability to manipulate Chaos Magic. Wanda's ability to channel and wield this magical energy was brought about by the Elder God, Chthon. On the day that Wanda was born, the ghostly specter of Chthon visited the newborn Wanda and "blessed" her so that she would be able to channel the dangerous Chaos Magicks that were the basis for Chthon's unholy might. Chthon's intentions were to create a vessel that he could possess one day, when Wanda would become a full-grown adult, though his schemes to do so would be foiled by the Avengers.
HEX BOLTS: The Scarlet Witch has the ability to manipulate probability via her "hexes" (often manifesting physically as "hex spheres" or "hex bolts"). These hexes are relatively short range, and are limited to her line of sight. Casting a hex requires a gesture and concentration on her part, though the gestures are largely a focus for the concentration. Early in her career, her hexes were unconscious on her part, and would be automatically triggered whenever she made a particular gesture, regardless of her intent. These hexes would only manifest "bad luck" effects. She later gained enough control over her powers that her powers now only work when she wants them to, and they are not limited to only negative effects; however, Wanda can’t always necessarily control what will happen when she casts a Hex Bolt - there is an estimated failure rate of 20%. She can use her hexes to light flammable objects, contain or remove air from a particular volume, deflect objects, stop the momentum of projectiles, open doors, explode objects, create force fields and deflect magical attacks. Her Hex Bolts have also been known to alter the molecular composition and physical state of physical objects, negate or distort physical laws, and to cause various forms of energy to spontaneously appear or disappear.
FLIGHT: Wanda portrays the ability to fly, though it is uncertain if this is part of her actual power-set, or if she somewhere along the line had cast a Hex Bolt at herself and had her powers augmented to include Flight. The full extent to this ability is unknown.
Skills:
SORCERY // WITCHCRAFT: Wanda was trained by Marya Maximoff in Roma witchcraft. Her sorcery training has not given her a set of powers separate from her mutant abilities, but only honed her control over her existing abilities. She has, however, a special affinity for the natural elements and materials that witches utilize in their spells: the four core alchemical elements, wood, organic substances, etc. Wanda can read palms, tea leaves and tarot cards.
Advantages:
ATTRACTIVE - Scarlet Witch has a habit of turning heads where ever she goes - she is simply just damn attractive. The more or less attractive they are, the harder it is to sneak through a crowd. A good appearance is also more likely to add to your approachability. Most mutants, other than those with physical mutations, fall under this. Their genetic superiority generally leaves them aestheticly pleasing to the eyes.
APPROACHABLE - There's something very approachable and non-threatening about Wanda, meaning that people often come to her with their problems or questions.
NOBILITY - Wanda tries to never let anything bad happen to anyone and begrudges even hurting her enemies. This higher class of character is often reflected in her appearance and manner of speech.
PRESENCE - When Wanda is present, EVERYONE knows it. She has such a charisma that it is impossible to overlook her.
Disadvantages:
LIMITED RANGE: Her range of hex-casting is limited to her physical line of sight; IE: she can't watch a live television broadcast and cause a hex-phenomenon to occur at the site of the broadcast.
PHYSICAL CONDITION: Her hexes have a degree of unreliability, which is further affected by her physical condition - when well rested, in good health, and mentally and emotionally alert, the Scarlet Witch can cast numerous hexes in rapid succession and attain desirable results for up to nearly an hour.
OVEREXTENSION: Her hexes are not necessarily guaranteed to work, particularly if she has been straining herself or using her powers excessively. If overextended, her hexes can backfire, causing probability to work against her wishes or to undo previous hexes.
MORTAL - When it comes down to the nitty-gritty, Wanda is human. Regardless of any armor she might wear, she is only human and susceptible to injury and disease, just like anyone else.
Occupation: Mutant Supremacist, though she sees herself as more of a Mutant Rights Advocate, per se.
Citizenship: Transia
Place of Birth: Wundagore, Transia
Relatives:
History:
Magneto’s wife Magda had managed to survive the arson that claimed the life of their young daughter, Anya. She fled the city, afraid for her own life and the life of the babies that had just recently started to grow within her - though, her husband hadn’t known that they were expecting more children. Magda was eventually found and taken in by a group of Gypsies; meanwhile, her husband thought that Magda had died in the fire with Anya.
The twins Wanda and Pietro were born about six months later, near Wundagore Mountain in the country of Transia. It is said that the Elder God Chthon slept underneath this mountain, and that he enhanced the infant Wanda’s as-yet dormant mutant powers; it is believed that the Scarlet Witch would have been an ordinary energy manipulator, or perhaps simply able to cause bad luck, had the Elder God not intervened.
The twins’ mother died giving birth to them, and they were then raised by foster parents, the Gypsies Django and Marya Maximoff, who had only recently lost two children of their own. Django and Marya were Roma (Gypsies), and unfortunately often suffered from prejudice and persecution. Marya found work as a fortune teller, and Django worked as a doll-maker, but it was hard for them to find customers due to being Roma. Django eventually had to steal food to keep his family from starving. The twins did not know that this couple were not their biological parents until they had reached their early teens.
Before she died, Magda had written a letter to her children and left it in the safekeeping if the Maximoffs, to give to the twins when they were deemed old enough to handle the Truth. The letter revealed the name of their father: Erik Lensherr - who was also known as Magneto, the Mutant Terrorist and Leader of the Brotherhood of Mutants.
When Wanda grew a bit older, she was sexually assaulted by a boy her age, and was forced to use her powers to protect herself. The people from this boy’s village, however, accused Wanda of having seduced the boy, and they came after the Maximoffs in the form of an angry mob, setting fire to the family’s wagon. Marya was still inside and burned to death, and Django had been beaten, but Wanda and Pietro were able to escape. The twins now only had each other - and their mysterious father in America - and Pietro grew to be incredibly overprotective of Wanda.
Nearly five years ago, the twins finally made it to America and sought out their biological father, for they are mutants just like he is, he is their only surviving family left, and they wanted to join his cause to fight for mutant rights and assert their belief in their supremacy. They were soon recruited into Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants, and took on the mutant names: the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, though it wasn’t until recently that Magneto learned the truth about the twins’ parentage. They have been called terrorists, which Wanda feels is a bit extreme, but the Brotherhood will stop at nothing in order to secure Mutants' place at the top of the New World Order.
