"Lord, mah hands are itchin' like there's ants crawlin' all ova' 'em - Ah'm gonna need ta touch somethin' real soon..." ~X-Men 199
ROGUE
Name: Anna Marie Raven
Alias(es): N/A
REGULAR
Age: ~21
Height: 5’ 7”
Physical Description: Rogue is a petite, small-framed girl who appears more like a classic waif than a dangerous threat, even though her powers make her actually the latter rather than the former. Naturally having auburn hued hair, she also has developed a white streak that now grows naturally into the face-framing portion of her hair that presented itself on the night her powers first manifested. Rogue is almost always seen wearing gloves, but this is for function rather than fashion purposes, although she has a pair in almost every color, to go with almost any outfit.
Face Claim: Anna Paquin
Personality: Anna Marie is a charming Southern girl - at least that's what she'd have you think. She was well coached in the arts of proper etiquette by her aunt Carrie, and she can put up an excellent facade. However, Rogue is very carefree, despite all she's been through.
She would love to explore the world and have adventures, although she is more than happy to stay at home and work on her car, or hang out with her friends. She considers the Xavier Institute her true home, having put Mississippi and the Brotherhood right out of her mind.
Rogue became a bit hardened and jaded while with the Brotherhood, but since joining the X-Men, she's softened up a bit. She feels terrible about what happened between herself and Ms. Marvel, and Rogue dreads ever having to face her again (and to apologize).
Over time, and with much practice, Rogue has come to embrace her mutant power. She likes to use it, to sample other people's powers; but, she isn't so much a fan of having other people's personalities take over.
Affiliation: X-Men
Identity: SECRET
Powers or Special Abilities:
POWER/PERSONALITY ABSORPTION - Through direct skin-to-skin contact with other people, Rogue has the ability to copy their personalities and knowledge. In the case of other mutants or supers, she copies all of this in addition to their special super powers. The longer the skin contact between Rogue and the other person, the longer their copied attributes remain within her, and the more they can potentially affect her psychologically and emotionally.
The copied attributes/abilities stay with Rogue at the approximate rate of 60:1 (sixty seconds of contact = one hour of copied power usage). Rogue has the ability to control this power, to turn it on and off at will, with the sole exception being her hands. She often wears gloves in an effort to shield them from others.
If her victim is unwilling to "share" with her, and he/she is a mutant (or other super-powered being), then he/she may fall unconscious - unless their will is stronger than Rogue's. If a super-powered being IS willing to "share" with Rogue, they will only experience a sort of tingling sensation that her power has been said to bring, if they feel anything at all.
If Rogue’s “victim's” will is higher than Rogue’s own, there is a distinct possibility that the other personality may overcome Rogue, thus wresting control of her body from her for a period of time.
Rogue may also choose to allow the copied psyche to “take over”, surrendering control over her own body to the copied psyche. In this case, her control over the copied power will be equal to or slightly less than that of the original power’s wielder. This is something Rogue may choose to do if a copied power proves to be too much for her to handle. In this case, Rogue will also talk like, act like, think like [etc] her “victim” would.
If Rogue's "victim" is a baseline human, then Rogue's touch will knock them out up to the length of time that their personality and knowledge stays with her. Baseline humans do not [generally] have higher will ranks than mutants; however, if Rogue chose to allow it, the human’s psyche could take control over Rogue for a period of time.
Rogue is able to absorb psyches and abilities of several beings at once, though the experience can be very confusing and disorienting for her.
Robotic beings are mostly immune to her power. Depending on the amount of organics left, she can usually affect cyborgs. She seems able to affect techno-organic beings. Powerful enough beings can withstand her touch and attempt to impose their own will on her or cause a feedback loop.
Rogue more than a little bit uneasy about absorbing abilities that include a physical mutation.
PERMANENTLY ABSORBED POWERS:
FLIGHT - Rogue is able to fly at nearly the speed of sound, but she cannot reach escape velocity and cannot survive in the vacuum of outer space without a proper space suit.
SUPER-STRENGTH - Rogue can lift up to around 50 tons and can easily lift and throw cars/tanks/etc.
ENHANCED REFLEXES – Rogue’s reflexes have been enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of even the finest human athlete.
NEAR-INVULNERABILITY - Rogue can take hits from most standard weaponry without injury, and she can also withstand machine gun fire, mortar shells and most standard energy weaponry. However, after being hit with enough force for a long enough period of time, Rogue will weaken and become more and more susceptible to injury as time, and the battle, goes on.
Skills:
AUTO REPAIR - Rogue picked up the skill of intermediate auto repair from one of her victims, before she came to the Xavier Institute. She enjoys spending time in the garage, specifically working on her own car, an American muscle car classic: a midnight blue hued 1969 Camero. She purchased it on the cheap and is frequently tweaking it in the garage - to make it run better and faster, mostly. Her baby is parked during the Winter, and then she has to rely on public transportation or the kindness of her friends.
BLUFF - Rogue has picked up the art of the bluff: lying, straight faced, to achieve her goals. Whether it be putting on a damsel in distress act to lure in a victim, to telling a little white lie to spare someone's feelings, Rogue is a pro.
COMBAT STYLE (Streetfighting) - This skill lets Rogue use the environment to her advantage when involved in combat situations. These actions (bites, eye gouges, kidney punches, and so on) are generally frowned upon in heroic circles.
STREETWISE - The art of living and surviving on the mean streets. Rogue knows how to handle herself on the streets and when dealing with low-lifes and undesirables. She knows who to or not to approach, how to identify gang signs, etc.
Advantages:
SKILL-GAINING - When absorbing skills from a "victim", Rogue learns the basics of these new skills very quickly. Such skills can range from academics, to manual skills. If she utilizes these skills while they're fresh in her mind, they linger long after everything else from her "victims" fades away, just as if she learned these skills herself.
HARD TO KILL - Simply put, Rogue is incredibly difficult to kill. Even when you blow her to bits, she has an annoying habit of surviving... somehow.
CHARISMATIC - Rogue just seems to have that special magnetic charm or appeal about her. There is something about her that people just can't seem to resist. She has a personal attractiveness or interestingness that enables her to influence others in a positive manner. Anna Marie comes off as charming, largely in part to her Southern upbringing.
PSYCHIC STATIC - The sometimes "crowded" nature of Rogue's psyche creates a kind of "psychic static" that makes her mind difficult, but not impossible, for telepaths to read (until whoever she's absorbed has faded from her mind, that is). During this time she is still susceptible to mental blasts and other crude psi assaults, however.
Disadvantages:
COMPULSIVE SPEECH (aka Big Mouth) - For whatever reason, Rogue often has difficulty sticking to the rule, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say it at all". She is known for being saucy and sassy.
MORTAL - When it comes right down to it, Rogue is mortal. She can be shot, stabbed, burned, poisoned, bludgeoned, and crushed (though, she may recover). She can age. One day, she will die.
UNCONTROLLABLE POWER - Rogue is currently seeking to gain control over her absorption powers. Since she cannot turn them on and off at will, Rogue often covers herself up as much as possible, not just for her own protection, but also for everyone else's.
Occupation: HERO // ADVENTURER
Citizenship: American
Place of Birth: Caldecott Co., Mississippi, USA
Relatives:
History: Rogue's parents, Owen and Priscilla, married early in their relationship and lived in a back-to-nature hippie commune in Caldecott County, Mississippi. Born as Anna Marie, she also enjoyed the attentions of her Aunt Carrie, on her mother's side. The commune's failed attempt to use Native American mysticism to reach the 'Far Banks' resulted in Priscilla's disappearance. Carrie took over Anna's care, and in her grief at the loss of her sister, was a strict and authoritarian guardian. Anna Marie was a rebellious child and her equally poor relationship with her father prompted her to run away from home as a young teenager. This also prompted the nickname "Rogue".
At some point, Rogue grew close to a boy named Cody Robbins. During their flirtation, she impulsively kissed Cody, at which point her latent mutant power to absorb the life energy and psyche of others with skin-to-skin contact emerged. Cody was left in a coma from which he would never awaken. Rogue was traumatized by the experience. She wore body-concealing clothing that eliminated the possibility of accidental skin contact. She wished she did not have to cover up so much around folks, to protect them from her uncontrollable power.
Not long after, she was approached by Mystique, who sought her out on the advice of her precognitive partner Destiny. Mystique ultimately took Rogue in as a daughter. In time, however, Mystique turned Rogue's loneliness, envy, bitterness, and despair into anger, thus recruiting her into the Brotherhood of Mutants. During this time, she encountered the superhero Ms. Marvel (a.k.a. Carol Danvers). Rogue and Ms. Marvel fought and, through prolonged contact during which Ms. Marvel fought valiantly to retain her consciousness, Rogue permanently copied Ms. Marvel's alien-based powers and memories, making her more of a threat than ever before.
However, Rogue couldn't cope with the copied psyche of Ms. Marvel // Carol Danvers in her head (and constantly threatening to take over), and no one in the Brotherhood could help her. Out of desperation, Rogue turned to the last man on Earth who might be able to do something: Charles Xavier, the mentor of the X-Men, enemies of the Brotherhood.
Gaining acceptance among the X-Men was tough, but after having spent the last several months with them, Rogue has eventually been able to charm and/or win over most of her peers.
