"Mind over Matter? Think back to all that processed food you ate today to help calm your nerves. I’m thinking about it right now. I’m thinking about moving it up. And moving it down. I don’t want you to get hurt. But you have to understand… The more you annoy me the more I can’t help thinking about lobotomizing you with my telepathy. So don’t patronize me. Don’t threaten me. And don’t ever endanger any of my friends again. Don’t even think about it, or I’ll know."
PSYCHE
Name: Jean Grey
Alias(es): Jeannie, Red
REGULAR
Age: ~25
Height: 5’ 6”
Physical Description: Jean is a natural beauty, with her long red hair, bright blue eyes and flawless fair skin. She is of average height and maintains the physique of a woman who works out regularly. While many girls primp and color themselves to achieve a desired level of attraction, the look comes easily to Jean - she always manages to look stunning.
Face Claim: Christina Hendricks
Personality: Jean is a tolerant person, believing in the inherent good of people, both mutant and human. She is prone to see the good in someone until proven absolutely wrong. She is quick thinking under pressure and is a true friend, supportive and a good listener. Underneath it all, she struggles with her own thoughts alone, not wanting to burden those around her. While most would consider Jean to be sweet and calm, there resides within her a passionate spirit, and dare we mention even a bit of a temper hidden under her demure nature. She is an organized individual, and control and order are important to her. Jean's not a neat freak, but she is still someone who keeps their things organized as well as trying to keep order in her work and own mind.
Affiliation: X-Men
Identity: SECRET
Powers or Special Abilities: By birth, Jean is a powerful telepathic and telekinetic mutant. Initially, Jean's powers were simply restricted to telekinesis, and even lifting her own weight quickly tired her. With training, her telekinesis improved. By herself, she is a strong telepath but she is notably weaker than the likes of Charles Xavier.
Telepathy: She can manipulate the minds of others and even the minds of higher order animals. She has demonstrated the following specialized uses:
- Telepathic Cloak: She can mask her presence and the use of her abilities from being detected by other psions and psychic entities. She can extend these defenses to others around her as well. Cloaking via telepathy is not perfect and powerful psis may notice and 'see' through this ability.
- Cloak Mind: Ability to rearrange the “mental engrams” of mutants so their distinctive mutant thought patterns cannot be detected by Cerebro-type devises or by other telepaths.
- Psionic Shield: Ability to erect a psychic shield for protection of herself and of others minds.
- Telepathic Illusions: She can create realistic telepathic illusions and cause people to experience events which are not actually occurring.
- Telepathic Camouflage: She can alter the apparent physical appearance of herself and other people by altering the perceptions of those around her. This can go so far as to make other people believe that the camouflaged people are not there (invisible). A limit, if one exists, is only imposed by the number of people she is trying to fool, not the number of people she is camouflaging.
- Mind Possession: She can possess the mind of another, and use that being's body as her own - Jean rarely utilizes this ability, viewing it as something intrusive and generally unpleasant.
- Mental Paralysis: She can induce temporary mental or physical paralysis - Jean rarely utilizes this ability, viewing it as something intrusive and generally unpleasant.
- Mental Amnesia: She can erase any awareness of particular memories or cause total amnesia - Jean rarely utilizes this ability, viewing it as something intrusive and generally unpleasant.
- Induce Pain: Can induce mental pain merely by touching the brow of her victim - Jean rarely utilizes this ability, viewing it as something intrusive and generally unpleasant.
- Heal Trauma: The ability to erase a person’s memories and to heal mental trauma through “psychic surgery,” the power to stimulate or deaden the pain and pleasure centers in a person's brain.
- Mental Sedating: Can telepathically "sedate" her victims so that, if already rendered unconscious, they remain so for as long as she continues to "sedate" them.
- Mind Link: Ability to develop a mental link with another person(s).
- Psionic Blasts: She can project psionic force bolts which have no physical effects, but which can affect a victim's mind so as to cause the victim pain or unconsciousness. These blasts are made up of a bright pink energy signature.
- Astral Projection: She can project her astral form from her body onto astral planes or the physical planes. In the physical plane she can travel in astral form over vast distances. In the astral plane, she can mentally create psionic objects and manipulate the aspects of her environment. She can communicate with others astrally through her own will, or through contact with the thoughts and memories of others.
- Thought Projection: Jean can send her own thoughts into the mind(s) of another, allowing them to see what she is thinking. She can do this with multiple minds simultaneously.
- Mental Detection: She can sense the presence of another superhuman mutant within a small but as yet undefined radius of herself by perceiving the distinctive mental radiations emitted by such a being.
Telekinesis: Telekinetic abilities enable her to levitate herself or other objects, propel or manipulate them however she wishes, stimulate individual molecules to create heat, and generate concussive force or protective shields.
Skills:
ASSESSMENT - Jean can tell the difficulty of many tasks and judge the abilities of others. She has the potential to learn the difficulty of a task or one ability or intensity score about an individual, thanks to her Telepathy.
ASTRAL COMBAT - Jean is skilled in fighting in her astral form, on the Astral Plane.
ATHLETICS - Jean is well trained in kickboxing and advanced self defense. She also has the stamina and endurance of someone who runs regularly.
BLUFF - Jean has picked up the art of the bluff: lying, straight-faced; though, usually Jean's bluffs are something along the lines of telling a little white lie to spare someone's feelings. Jean will lie about other things, in order to save face, if need be. But Jean tends to be very honest and will only lie if absolutely necessary.
OBSERVATION - The general ability to tell when something is interesting or out of place. Jean is quite aware of what is going on around her, thanks in part to her Telepathy.
PILOTING - Jean has been trained and is skilled in piloting the Blackbird.
Advantages:
360º PERCEPTION - This gift allows Jean to "see with the heart", allowing her to avoid over-reliance on her eyes for seeing her environment. Her Telepathy senses people in the area, and she can also then see through their eyes.
CHARISMATIC - Jean just seems to have that special magnetic charm or appeal about her. There is something about Jean that people just can't seem to resist. She seems to have a personal attractiveness or interestingness that enables her to influence others in a positive manner. Jean also has a habit of turning heads where ever she goes. She's just damn attractive.
CON-GOER - Jean can push herself to her limits as she tries to reach new heights, or sustain using it for prolonged periods of time.
EIDETIC MEMORY - Jean possesses the uncanny ability to recall images, sounds, or objects in memory with great accuracy and in seemingly abundant volume. One of the most useful advantages of this ability is sometimes she is able to remember her dreams with exact detail.
PRESENCE - When Jean is present, EVERYONE knows it. Someone like Jean, with her long red hair and flawless features, has a difficult time simply blending in most of the time. And when Jean’s actions tap into her more passionate side she becomes even more difficult to ignore.
Disadvantages:
MIGRAINE - Jean is migraine-prone, especially when she over-uses her powers. She will become super-sensitive to light and sound, and her equilibrium and/or depth perception may be off. It is nearly impossible for Jean to concentrate on anything when she is suffering from a migraine; however, it's nothing a dark, quiet room, a dose of caffeine and some pills won't cure - along with the passage of time.
UNCONTROLLABLE POWER - During times of extreme stress, Jean's Telekinetic powers have been known to go wild, striking things and people at random (or simply lifting up off the ground and smashing back down again).
THANATOPHOBIA – A fear of death. Due to Jean’s experiences as a little girl with death, the teenager has a fear of dying - not just herself but also others. Because of this, she sometimes hesitates to use her more aggressive powers, such as psionic blast, for fear of killing someone.

History: Jean Grey is the youngest daughter of Professor John Grey – a professor in the History Department of Bard College in Annandale-on Hudson, New York, and his homemaker wife, Elaine. Jean was a normal girl with a normal upper middle class family and a normal, happy life – until her mutant powers manifested.
Her telepathy manifested quite early, when Jean was only ten years old. She and her best friend, Annie Richardson, had been playing outside, probably a little too close to the street, and Annie had been hit by a car and mortally wounded. Jean watched in stunned fear as her friend’s body went limp and flew several feet before landing on the shoulder of the road. Jean rushed to Annie’s side and took her in her arms, sobbing and terrified. The emotions that Jean felt as she held her dying friend awakened her own latent telepathic powers, which then caused her to experience Annie's own frantic emotions as she died in Jean’s arms. Jean had felt Annie die.
This traumatic event left Jean in a withdrawn and deeply depressed state. She suffered dramatic weight loss and insomnia while she attempted recover from the traumatic event of Annie's death. Moreover, Jean discovered that she could not control her newly awakened telepathic abilities. She didn’t know that she was a mutant, let alone what a mutant was, and she thought she was loosing her mind. Wherever she went, Jean heard voices… It was as if the thoughts of those around whispered – and sometime yelled – directly into Jean’s own mind, and she couldn’t shut them up. She ended up having to isolate herself from other people to keep a hold of her sanity. Jean’s inability to control her telepathy nearly drove her insane, combined with the misdiagnosis of schizophrenia, she started to believe she was truly nuts. Jean was then pulled from public school and placed on a strict regiment of medication and therapy. The medications used to curb her false diagnosis of schizophrenia stunted the development of her secondary mutation: Telekinesis; though Jean was not aware of this, nor of her mutancy.
Several years ago, Professor Charles Xavier discovered Jean and wanted to help her. With her parents’ permission, he offered her a way out of the haze and isolation of her “illness” along with a chance to learn to control her powers and a shot at a “normal” life. Jean felt hope for the first time in a long time, and she left the mental institution with Professor Xavier that very afternoon, excited at the opportunities he offered. Jean did learn control over her telepathy under the tutelage of Professor Xavier, and in doing so, she also unlocked her secondary psionic ability – telekinesis: to levitate and manipulate objects through psionic force. Jean was initially only able to move objects with her mind that she would normally only be able to physically lift, but Professor Xavier trained her to better use and refine this ability.
