Magik: "I don't want you to see me... not like this..."
Colossus: "Why are you ashamed? You risked everything - hazarded your soul - to save your friends. That is something to be proud of."
M: "That wasn't altruism. It wasn't anything so nice or noble. I was angry. Nobody gets the better of Magik - especially not some warty old yuck-face out of Granny's fairy tales!"
C: "Why do you speak so?"
M: "Don't be dense - because it's true! Look at me! I am Evil! I'm only Good because I want to be!"
C: "Don't you listen... don't you understand? ’I'm only good because I want to be.’ Isn't that the point? Making a deliberate, conscious choice?"~ exchange between Magik and an imaginary Colossus in Limbo, from Uncanny X-Men #231
MAGIK
Name: Illyana Nikolievna Rasputina
Aliases: Magik, 'Yana, Darkchilde, Little Snowflake
NPC
Age: This is impossible to pin down exactly, due to the nature of her powers and due to the time she's spent in Limbo; Illyana appears to be a young woman of about 21 or so years old; however, the date on her birth certificate indicates that she ought to be almost a decade younger...
Height: 5’ 5”
Physical Description: Illyana is a petite young lady with icy blue eyes and silky pale blonde hair - she is much smaller than her big brother, Piotr (Colossus). Illyana is not bothered with "fashion". While residing in Limbo, Magik tends to wear more Medieval, warior-esque styles; on Earth, she will wear whatever she happens to grab from within her closet.
Face Claim: Elena Korikova
Personality: Illyana is a very focused and determined young woman. She knows what she wants and will do whatever is necessary to achieve her goals.
Before she was kidnapped by Belasco and taken to Limbo, Illyana was a warm and friendly little girl, although when people first met her, she could seem quiet and perhaps shy - but she's not. Not at all.
Since defeating Belasco, Illyana has become Darker... When her inner-Darkness is at its strongest, such as when she is angry or stressed out, the Darkness can take over, transforming Illyana's petite form into that of a demoness. When in her demonic form, Illyana calls herself the Darkchilde, and she is almost like a completely different person: colder, more ruthless, and perhaps even mean.
Affiliation: X-Men; Limbo (Ruler)
Identity: SECRET
Powers:
- Spacial & Temporal Teleporting: Illyana has the ability to mentally control "stepping discs", which allow her to teleport from one location to another. When Illyana mentally calls for a Stepping Disc, she must use Limbo, a pocket dimension where the rules of Earth-physics do not apply, as a midway point. It is not known if she was genetically predetermined to travel through Limbo, or if she does so because, having been spirited there as a child, it was the only alternate dimension that she was instinctively aware of.
Magik has succeeded in teleporting herself across continents, from one continent to another, and will someday, perhaps, even be able to reach across intergalactic distances. Apparently she can mentally scan Limbo while on Earth (or presumably anywhere else), in order to locate whoever (or whatever) she wishes to teleport from Limbo down to her on Earth.
Unlike most other teleporters in the Marvel Universe, Magik can teleport through time as well as space. She has teleported moments, days or centuries into the past or future. Early on, she had difficulty modulating this ability and would often inadvertently travel through time and space when intending to teleport only through space. Magik was told by Dr. Strange that she has potential for great feats of manipulating time on a grand scale. - Sorcery: Magik is the sorceress supreme of her Limbo dimension. There, she is all powerful, and the powerful demons of Limbo dare not challenge her. Magik can probably cast any magic spell that Belasco could, having had access to his store of sorcerous knowledge and current access to his library. Her sorcery is a unique mix of black magic that she learned from Belasco, and white magic that she was taught by an alternate-reality Ororo Munroe. On Earth she is limited to Astral Projection, a Mystical Sense (ability to detect mystical presences), Simple Spells, and Summoning her Soulsword.
- Limbo Control: Magik’s Limbo, also known as Otherplace, is a small pocket dimension where time passes differently than on Earth. It s possible that one might spend years in Magik's limbo while no more than moments pass on Earth - and also the opposite can be said to be true - due to the unknown temporal laws of the place. The matter within Magik’s Limbo can be shaped and transformed by the thoughts and emotions of the sorcerer who is its master.
- Mystical Eldritch Armor: The more that Magik uses her magical powers on any occasion, the more mystical armor appears on her body. It was revealed that the mystical armor that manifests on the individual that wields the Soulsword is actually a magical armor provided to whoever rules Limbo. When wearing the mystical armor, Illyana displays an increase in her own personal strength, equivalent to the strength of her older brother when he is in his armored form.
- Psionic Shields: Illyana has impenetrable psionic shields when she is in her Darkchilde form. As such, even powerful telepaths such as Charles Xavier, Emma Frost and Jean Grey and Elisabeth Braddock cannot mentally read Illyana's thoughts or sense her psionically.
Skills:
ASTRONOMY - The science of the stars. One of Illyana's favorite things to do is to stare up at a clear night sky, and look at the stars. She has learned most all of the constellations due to her fascination. With her pagan connection, she is also familiar with the Star Signs/Zodiac names that most constellations are named after (and their meanings/traits).
EQUESTRIAN - Illyana grew up on a farm and learned how to ride horses at an early age.
FAST EXIT - Illyana can attack physically and move to out of range before any foe can complete an action that affects her. She's quite spry, and she can teleport, too.
LANGUAGES - Illyana fluently speaks her native Russian as well as English. Only when she is tired does her native Russian accent slip out.
Advantages:
ATTRACTIVE - Illyana has a habit of turning heads where ever she goes - she's just damn attractive. The more attractive you are, the more likely you are to be noticed, the same with the uglier you are. The more or less attractive they are, the harder it is to sneak through a crowd. A good appearance is also more likely to add to your approachability. Most mutants, other than those with physical mutations, fall under this. Their genetic superiority generally leaves them aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. Even when she is her Darkchilde-self, Illyana is still quite beautiful (albeit a bit frightening).
CHARISMATIC - Illyana has this elusive, even undefinable personality trait that often includes the uncanny ability to charm, persuade, inspire, and/or influence people. One could say she has a magnetic personality. That is... unless she transforms into the Darkchilde.
DISCIPLINED - Illyana is a disciplined young woman, both mentally and physically. This allows her keep her mind sharp and her body in peak physical condition. This Advantage allows Illyana to be more intuitive both in class and in Training Sessions, furthermore leading to heightened intelligence, combat skills and achievement.
INTERNAL COMPASS - Illyana is never lost or disoriented in any area that she has been to before. Once Yana gets her bearings, she will be at a slight bonus to navigate in a new area. This Advantage does not work in alien dimensions or alternate realities, unless she has been to such places beforehand.
Disadvantages:
DARK SIDE - Simply being around the use of Dark Magicks - or simply during times of extreme anxiety, anger or stress - can trigger Illyana's demonic 'Darkchilde' form, as this is the form that Belasco created from Darkness and tied her soul to. Yana's body reflexively reacts in such a way, transforming her into a demonic looking creature bit by bit, from head to toe: her eyes take on a red glow, horns sprout from out of her head, her tongue becomes forked, her stature increases by about 6 inches (give or take), red scales cover parts of her skin, a demonic tail sprouts from her coccyx, and cloven hooves take the place of her dainty feet. It's not every time that Illyana transforms fully into the Darkchilde - sometimes she'll only display portions of the demonic persona; for example, if she gets angry her eyes might be the only part of her to visibly change. Also, her personality becomes markedly darker as the Darkchilde. This transformation is mostly beyond her control, although Yana tries to bury her extreme emotions in a constant effort to keep the Darkchilde buried within her – she’s kind of frightening. Magik sometimes worries that if she lets herself be the Darkchilde too often, for too long a period of time, that she may one day not be able to regain her human form. However, on the plus side, in her demonic form, even powerful telepaths such as Charles Xavier, Emma Frost, Elisabeth Braddock and Jean Grey cannot mentally read Illyana's thoughts or sense her psionically.
MORTAL - Illyana is just human, when it comes down to it, and she can be injured or killed, just like anyone else.
Equipment:
SOULSWORD - Made of a piece of Illyana's own soul, the Soulsword holds several powers:
- Mystic Right: The Soulsword is a physical manifestation of Magik’s magical powers as well as the limbo dimension she rules. As the Soulsword is the living embodiment of Illyana Rasputin, whomever owns the sword is considered to be the ruler of Limbo (Otherplace) just as Illyana once was. Only the ruler of Limbo can weild the sword and only the wielder of the sword can rule limbo.
- Strike the Supernatural: The Soulsword has been shown to only harm magical creatures or objects - it rarely injures non-magical beings or items.
- Maim the Ethereal: Intangible and ethereal beings can also be struck, as SHADOWCAT once painfully learned.
- Counter/Break Spell: When Magik uses the Soulsword to strike a person who is possessed, ensorcelled, or otherwise magically controlled or transformed the sword will be able to counter or break the spell.
- Stepping Disc Control: The Soulsword can be used to control Limbo's 'stepping discs.'
- Spell Sword: Magik has learned to 'draw' spells with the sword using arcane symbols.
- Sword Summoning: Magik can store her Soulsword in nothingness and summon it whenever she desires.
- Summon Armor: It can also be used to summon eldritch armor around the wearer. This is sometimes done without the wielder's conscious control.
- Augment Magic: Any magic user who holds the Soulsword instantly has their mystic abilities amplified.
BEATRICE MEDALLION - The Beatrice Medallion was given to Belasco to enable the ascension of the Elder Gods. In Illyana Rasputin (Magik) he found the intended, pure, victim. Five Bloodstones must be conjured into this medallion for it to function. Each creation requires a spell only know to Belasco and the corruption of a pure being. When the last Bloodstone is conjured a gateway will be created for the Elder Gods (possibly Chthon) to enter the earth dimension. The medallion's material is mystically enhanced and very hard to destroy. Thus far, 3 Bloodstones have been conjured and the current location of the medallion is not known. It is presumed to be somewhere within Limbo.
Occupation: Ruler of Limbo; Hero

Place of Birth: Rasputin Farm, near Lake Baikal, Siberia

History:
Born on her family’s farm in Lake Baikal, Siberia, to Nikolai and Alexandra Rasputin, Illyana Nikolievna Rasputin is the younger sister of Mikhail and Piotr. While Piotr was a teenager and Illyana was maybe around 4 or 5 years old, their older brother Mikhail became a Russian cosmonaut. During a mission Mikhail’s shuttle exploded during re-entry, and he died instantly.
Mikhail's death sparked the manifestation of Piotr's powers, turning into his steel form before passing out in front of his family and the government agent who had come to their home to break the news of Mikhail's death to the Rasputins. Illyana was amazed at his transformation, excited about what her Piotr could do. After this incident, Piotr and Illyana became much closer to each other, although he had always been there for her as her older brother, just like Mikhail had been to him, and he nicknamed her his "Little Snowflake". Colossus sent for her to join him at the Xavier Institute in America when she was still just a little girl.
Illyana would grow close to all of the X-Men, but especially Kitty Pryde. Kitty would read her bedtime stories and interact with her a lot. This would be the start of a bond that would only grow over time.
At the age of 7, Illyana was kidnapped by Belasco and taken to Limbo, where the X-Men tried to follow. While there, Illyana also ran into alternate versions of the X-Men, that did had not managed to return to their own dimension. While attempting to return to their dimension, Belasco grabbed Illyana and Kitty held onto her arm until she lost her grip.
Illyana was taken by Belasco and he told her he loved her, then he had turned part of her soul into a Bloodstone, giving her great potential for power and allowing him to control her. While staying with Belasco, Illyana was constantly beaten by Belasco's servant, S'ym. Illyana was, then, rescued by Storm and Cat, alternate versions of Ororo Munroe and Kitty Pryde. For a while, Illyana was instructed in magic by Storm, and instructed in combat by Cat.
Illyana had to constantly battle demons and some of that reality's versions of the X-Men, including Nightcrawler, to survive. After attempting to return home to her reality, Illyana eventually became Belasco's apprentice, while secretly gaining advise from Storm's astral form. Cat had been turned into a true house cat and was loyal to Belasco. Belasco attempted to use Illyana as a pawn to bring about the Elder Gods.
At this time, Illyana's own mutant powers of teleportation discs was discovered. Illyana was forced to kill Cat to save the life of Storm, whom she later had to kill to save from being used in Belasco's sacrificial ritual. After burying Storm, Illyana briefly teleported home to her parents' farm, but they did not recognize her and turned her away, under the assumption that their daughter was safe with their son Colossus in America and was still a 7 year old little girl. So, she returned to Limbo where she magically used her own life force energies to create the Soulsword, and then she used it to defeat Belasco and take over Limbo. A simple looking blade upon its origin, it began to develop intricate designs and forms upon itself the more Illyana used it, becoming more powerful with each use.
Just prior to her killing stroke she stopped not wanting to become anymore dark, any more like Belasco. She then exiled him from Limbo. Due to this defeat, Illyana was now the unquestioned ruler of Limbo. And due to the 6 years of teaching she received while there, she had the ability to fight for her title if need be.
Finally gaining confidence she would create a "stepping disc" and would return herself to home. When Illyana again returned to Earth, she was a thirteen year old teenager, the same age now as Kitty Pryde. When she arrived it would only be seconds from when they originally lost the younger Illyana. After a small conversation the X-Men believed her and took her to Professor X for further examination. He found that he was unable to probe her very much but did see, for the most part, that what she claims happened, did. She would stay at the mansion with the rest of the X-Men uneventfully for a short while, where she would be roomed with Kitty Pryde. They became quick friends and would lay the foundation for a relationship as best friends. But even to Kitty, she revealed nothing - she made sure not to tell anyone about her magical or mutant powers, wanting to keep them a secret. Illyana was attempting to try and cope with all the events and changes she went through while in Limbo. Try as she might, Illyana could not hide the truth forever, and her secrets would eventually be revealed... Once Professor X was informed of Illyana's mutant nature, she was granted the ability to study with and join the New Mutants, which she gladly did - she has recently been appointed to the X-Men.
Illyana quickly learned that she was not nearly as powerful a sorceress on Earth as she was in Limbo, but she still retained an immunity to the most powerful telepathic probes while in her demonic form, and she continued to struggle with the use of her mutant powers, often sending people to the wrong place or time; since then she's gotten much better at controlling where and when her discs will lead.
