Location: A Coffee Shop in Manhattan Date:11th of June Time of Day: 12:30
It was lunch time in New York and Scott was annoyingly in the middle of it. He had come in to the city not out of choice but out of necessity, there were a lot of potential students that needed visiting and the Professor couldn't be everywhere at once. So Scott had been in the city visiting a child who's power to teleport short distances had just manifested and her parents. Scott had decided because it was a sort of business meeting and he was representing the school he wore a smart black suit (the only one he owned) and a red tie that made his red shaded glasses seem less ridiculous to most people. The meeting had gone okay, they had listened to him talk about the school and Scott was sure the fact that he had been a student there too had helped greatly. They had nodded, smiled and taken a brochure before saying they would think about it, Scott believed they would be saying no to themselves now and then reconsider in about a week when the spontaneous teleportation continued.
So this was how Scott found himself in hell or to be exact a coffee shop in Manhattan during the lunch time rush, he'd gotten himself a small..no wait tall white coffee with a lot of sugar and two brownies. Not exactly the healthiest lunch but whatever he could work it off later shooting holograms in the face. Luckily he found himself a table in the packed shop, the last one here it seemed. He felt a little guilty because he was by himself and the table was supposed to seat a group but he supposed if someone desperately needed to sit down they would just ask to sit at his table. After the coffee he'd have to return to the School, this meeting had taken less time then he'd anticipated and there was probably something that needed doing back there but until then he was content to sit back and enjoy his meal.

"Is that the guy Jarvis?"
"Yes sir, Scott Summers is inside this facility."
"It's a coffee shop, lighten up Jarvis."
"Very well sir."
Tony Stark shut his phone off and picked up his newspaper from the other seat before exiting his red convertable and walking into the shop. He spotted the man wearing sunglassses, just like his SHIELD profile said he would. Iron Man had come with intent on gaining favor with Xavier's boys and girls club, as opposed to letting SHIELD try and make them into their new response team.
The Avengers had distanced themselves from SHIELD, not wanting to be tied to an actual government agency. Tony knew where that would have led. Using the Avengers as a tiny assault force was the logical next step, and one that none of them were willing to make. One Avenger on their own would be enough to level a small town or together an entire city. He could imagine that the X-Men would probably be able to do the same. Tony intended to make the X-Men friends of the Avengers, not SHIELD.
"Hi there, looks like all the tables are filled up, mind if I join you?" Tony started speaking to the man, but didn't wait for his answer before sitting. He was Tony Stark after all, everyone knew that this was how he behaved.
Pulling open his paper, Tony got settled before saying, "So, how's upstate looking these days? Your boss going to let me install that Arc Reactor to power your school yet?" Tony had sent out an offer to use his tech to start powering Xavier's school, but he hadn't heard back anything. If he wanted a word with the X-Men, it appeared that Tony was going to have to be more direct.

Scott took a bite out of his brownie, it tasted nice with a hardness on the outside and a soft, squidgy middle that was still a little bit warm when he heard someone ask if they could sit down. Before he could answer he heard the chair being pulled away and someone sitting down. He looked up and saw who it was. A slightly confused look went over his face and he was glad he had glasses on because his eyes widened in surprise. Quickly he swallowed his mouthful and wiped himself with a paper napkin, in honesty he was very surprised by the man sitting in front of him. If his eyes were not deceiving him he was sat in front of Tony Stark a man who after the 'I am Iron Man' incident and the Monaco Grand Prix incident...and the Stark Expo incident...and the Alien invasion incidents which Scott believed was an unusual amount of incidents for one man was now a world famous super hero.
Scott couldn't quite understand why he was here, surely a man that rich had his coffee delivered by robot servants rather then dropping by a local coffee shop at rush hour. He then asked how it was up state and Scott realised he must already know who he was, that in itself was fairly impressive because as far as he knew Scott wasn't exactly Mr. Famous and it made him wonder exactly how much the billionare knew about the operations at the mansion. Scott gave a friendly smile and said “Well Mr. Stark things are going as well as ever. I didn't know that you that you had a vested interest in our course or is it that you're....you're not are you?”
It would be interesting if it turned out the Invincible Iron Man was a mutant. It would also explain Stark's reasoning about giving them an arc reactor. ”Up and running very well thank you. I've not talked to the Professor about it but I'm sure he sent you his thanks, taking us off the grid makes us able to focus more money of the welfare of the students but I'm sure you didn't come here to chit chat with me...are there not more important people who should be occupying your time? Not that I'm complaining about you being here...it's just, well y'know...considering who you are?

"Your course? No, I don't do school, even if I needed it." Tony closed his paper and set it down, looking at the man. Going off the fact that he was wearing sunglasses inside, this had to be the one that shot lasers out of his eyes. Tony cracked the ghost of a smirk before saying, "I came to give you a heads up. SHIELD's watching you, probably even right now as we speak. Well, not just you, more like all of you, what was it again, M-Men? V-Men? I can't remember, but you guys. Particularly the one with the claws and the attitude."
Tony wasn't exactly one who should be pointing out personality flaws in others, the near alchoholic playboy superhero wouldn't be winning any awards for being a role model any time soon. Really this was the closest thing to a friendly gesture that Tony had made all week long. He continued from there, getting to the point of his visit.
"Nick Fury's always looking for some kind of super team to be at his beck and call. He likes to do 'favors' for people to have them in his debt, and he always makes sure people repay him." Only pausing for a moment, Tony finished off by saying, "Keep your super secret club super secret, okay? SHIELD shouldn't have a bunch of superhumans on tap.

Scott paused for a moment as he digested what was being said to him. Well it didn't seem like Stark was interested in studying at the school which mean't he wasn't a secret mutant and wasn't here on behalf of anyone who was. One thing Scott wasn't away of was the idea that SHEILD was watching them He took a look either side of himself and everyone in the coffee shop suddenly looked a little more suspicious but he told himself it must be all in his head, Stark had made him paranoid and Scott turned back to face him in time to answer "X-men..We're X-men" before he continued. He also mentioned Logan, a man who Scott was sure that the thing he was best at was causing problems for other people.
Next the coversation moved on to Nick Fury, someone who Scott was not all that familiar with. He knew who he was...some sort of head huncho inside of SHEILD but he always assumed that Fury had something to do with the Avengers, apparently not. Once Stark had finished Cyclops asked "I thought Fury was your guy? Or at least the one behind your Avengers team." He paused for a moment as if to collect his thoughts before asking "Do you know for sure that he has his eye upon us or is this just something you've taken for yourself to assume because if I go to the Professor with this it will probably cause some fall out."

"Fury was our guy, brought us all together, The Avengers that is," Stark started to explain, "Doing little favors for everyone here and there, getting us to trust him. It's all how he operates. He's a spy, a super spy even. Nick Fury's ulterior motives have ulterior motives. The second he puts the X-Men under SHIELD payroll, you'll be doing all sorts of black ops that you didn't sign up for."
Tony sat back in his seat, "So watch your back around SHIELD, your group doesn't seem like the type that should be rolling with them." When Scott mentioned there might be fall out, Tony waved it off, "The best way to deal with Nick Fury is to not deal with him at all. You see a guy in an eyepatch and he's not a pirate, say no thanks."

Scott kept looking at Stark. He wasn't quite sure what to make of the man, he kept warning him against Nick Fury and he believed that Stark seemed to have their best interests at heart. He was asking him to be wary of SHEILD but he wasn't actually asking the X-men to do anything for him. Then again Stark had recently given the X-men an ARC-reactor. That was a pretty big favour in itself wasn't it?
Scott decided it was best to play it by ear. It seemed to be a world in which very few people could be trusted in the world of Super Heroics. At least the X-men could be trusted to rely on each other. "Well thanks for the advice...Though I have a feeling we may be safe. The professor keeps us working for mutant issues and I get the feeling SHEILD doesn't seem focused on the Pro Mutant agenda. What us still being in the 'Hero or Menace?' catagory".

Tony had a vested interest in making sure that the X-Men were able to keep running. One, because he supported the Mutant cause and letting the X-Men continue on meant that he didn't need to worry about it. Two, because having them as allies meant that they wouldn't need to worry about a showdown between the X-Men and the Avengers any time soon. Finally, three, because Superheroes needed to look out for other Superheroes, right?
When Scott mentioned that SHIELD wouldn't want to get in the middle of the Mutant discussions, Tony looked at him as if he was quite naive, "They kept the Hulkbusters unit off Jolly Green for three years until he agreed to join the Avengers. I'm pretty sure that Fury and SHIELD would have no problem jumping right into the middle of Senator Kelly's fire fight if they wanted to." If there was one thing predictable about Nick Fury, it was that he loved to raise his voice to smug politicians like Kelly.

Senetor Kelly, now that was a man that Scott didn't like at all. Not that they'd ever really met. but Scott knew the man's politics. He'd used his right wing politics and scare mongering to fight an anti mutant agenda that would severely limit the rights of Scott and mutants everywhere. Whilst the X-men didn't actively engage Kelly, After all a group of masked mutant vigilantes? that's exactly the kind of thing he would jump in. They often found themselves pitted against people who shared his interests.
So maybe Fury would be willing to jump (if covertly) in to the mutant debate. There is one thing Scott needed to know though There is one thing I was wondering though....Why are you telling me this? I mean, I know it's great of you to be looking out for our interests but isn't warning us to avoid Nick Fury and SHEILD going to bring their attention upon you? I could imagine they had the ability to make your life pretty difficult"

Bring attention on him, those words got a chuckle out of Stark. He smirked a bit before answering the X-Man, "I'm Tony Stark, a little attention isn't going to stop me from doing anything. I've worked with SHIELD, I've made my allegiance or lack there of clear to SHIElD. The last thing we need is to have SHIELD have a big team of superhumans. I know there's a few there already, but the Avengers and the X-Men both are better off staying out of the government tasks forces as much as possible." Tony needed to hack the SHIELD database again when he visited a SHIELD base next, find out how many masks there were working for the group.
"There's plenty that the Avengers and the X-Men can do in the world, but it's much better that they do it without the government signing paychecks, know what I mean? Let's keep the suits out of the Superhero business." Tony figured that was fair enough. Scott Summers was an intelligent man, Tony knew that just from their conversation, surely he realized that Tony was the face of all superheroes every since the Iron Man press conference. Tony took that role more seriously than just about anything else he did.

Okay that was fair enough...he probably shouldn't have asked Tony Stark a question about drawing attention to himself, after all that was the man's whole thing. Whether intentionally or not he couldn't do a thing with out someone in the world tweeting about it or something. Scott couldn't put his finger on why but he seemed to like the man. Maybe it was a form of natural charisma but Scott was very much aware that he didn't normally give the time of day to cocky playboys. Perhaps he felt there was something different about Mr. Stark?
He agree'd that The X-men and Avengers had the power to do a lot of good and he doubted that a super team in the hands of any military power was a good idea. "I think I agree with the idea of keeping politics out of the Super Hero business too many....conflicted interests I think. I can't speak for the X-men or the Professor but if you or the Avengers are in need of aid I'm sure I can have your back and at least put a good word in." At least he said where he stood. It might be a good idea to lay his own alliegiance somewhere...and at least this guy had a track record of doing the right thing.

Tony stood up as well and said, "Alright, but if we end up working together, Avengers get the top billing in the news papers. Alphabetical order." He was kidding, a little bit. Of course that wasn't really much of a big deal to Stark, but it was good to hear that they could at least count on each other if something went wrong. Scott Summers seemed to know what he was doing when it came to making friends in high place. Tony nodded to the man and put his hand out to shake, "Hopefully, the day when the Avengers and the X-Men are needed to work together, doesn't come any time soon."
At least, Tony hoped that. If that many heroes needed to gather into one place at one time, there was no telling what kind of force would be trying to take over the Earth. It certainly was one that Tony had no interest in meeting. If they were anything like the Chitauri, they weren't going to be pushovers.

Scott smirked a little at the joke, and stood up as well. Mostly out of politeness then anything. He offered out his hand for a handshake, could be that he has made himself a possible ally for the future and he believed that having the Avengers and X-men on the same page would be a good idea. He responded to Stark's hope that they wouldn't have to team up any time soon. "I second that but when it does happen at least we know that we are on the same side"
